I've added the straps and darkened the color a bit, and here it is, all complete.
The mask has a strap over the top of the head to keep it from sliding down the face.
The eyes have been moved forward enough so that the wearer can easily see out of them.
This is my original sculpt in plasticene, from which I took the pattern.
Your pattern form is extremely clever! What a great technique! This is a hell of a swell mask!
ReplyDeleteMagnificent!

Yes. Yesyesyesyesyes.
ReplyDeleteI just saw this on ebay.. I've been looking for a Plague Doctor's Mask in ages, but they all cost soooo much! This is amazing seriously.. if only I was rich!
ReplyDeleteDo you mold all your masks in plasticene first? Is the inside of the mold hollow? I'd love a look at how you make the mold and fit the leather mask to that shape.
ReplyDeleteThe leather wasn't shaped on a mold. The plasticene is just for making a pattern from.
ReplyDeleteWould you be interested in selling your pattern?
ReplyDeleteI'd love to give a go at making this mask myself but am leery of my pattern making ability.
-, why don't you write me at tom at tombanwell dot com and I'll give you a price.
ReplyDeleteSimply awesome. I will be buying one from you in the near future, Tom!
ReplyDeleteThe best mask. )
ReplyDeleteAnd your working proces looks perfect.
Love this! I found your site doing some research for a book I'm writing where a character disguises himself as a plague doctor, and this is perfect. Do you mind if I post the picture on my site (with a link to you, of course!)
