This is a new direction for me. My first leather garment since I made sheepskin coats at Tahoe thirty some years ago.
I've been toying with the idea of making a steampunk leather corset, since they seem to be the rage among the ladies of steam.
I decided to start simple by making this black leather bustier with rivets and leather lacing running through eyelets. I haven't made a back strap yet, as I am undecided on how to do it. What do you all think? Please take my poll (

ReplyDeleteMay I be so bold as to suggest a kind of latch hook closure for the bustier rather than being tied/laced?

Interesting idea, Craig. I do think it should be adjustable though, and a latch like that doesn't lend itself to adjustability. Maybe a small buckle....

ReplyDeleteI would love to see you take this further down the steampunk road. Perhaps instead of grommets something more like a peg button, the lace wrapping around the stylized post. I know you will apply your fabulous victorian hipness to it. I am looking forward to being inspired by what you come up with.

ReplyDeletecan i ask how you painted it? It looks like spray paint but I know spray paint tends to crack and chip.
ReplyDeleteI airbrushed it with black latex acrylic paint. It is quite flexible.
ReplyDeleteTom - this is beautiful! I appreciate the texture and rivets you added and how the piece resembles a heart too... detials, I know - but woman (like me! :)) love that stuff! It makes an item all that more unique! :) Thank you for doing what you love - it shows! :D
